Phantasy
INTRODUCTION
Phantasy has numerous meanings. It has been defined as the innate, mental image of an
object, our immediate experience mediated by the imagination, a symbolic function, and
the consciousness of absence or what is yet to come. The course will investigate late seminars by the philosopher and mathematician, Edmund Husserl (1859-1938). Our studies will concentrate on the collected volume Phantasy, Image Consciousness, and Memory (1898-1925) to reflect on presentation, re-presentation, succession, discontinuity, and intention. The seminar will sail away from continental philosophy, flowing into collective writing and analysis, thesis development, peer review, and a perception diary.
