Claudia Medeiros is an artist originally from São Paulo, Brazil, living and working between Brazil and Germany. Her practice explores the poetics of everyday life fictions through moving images, performance, sound, spoken words, and research. She navigates the intricate landscapes of political and private realms, delving into themes of displacement, colonization, interpersonal dynamics, and the body’s positionality within these contexts. With a foundation in experimental filmmaking, she engages with both moving and still images, as well as the aural, to evoke thought and dialogue.

Her current artistic investigations revolve around narratives of relationships, examining the interplay between internal and external projections, as well as the economic power dynamics that shape these interactions, particularly the parallels between extractivist practices in nature and power dynamics in gender politics.

Recently, she has been crafting a series of short dance-to-camera videos, shared on social media, that probe the gaze of the unknown, the omnipresent third eye of surveillance, and the symbiotic dance between her body and the environment. Blurring the lines between awareness, desire, and power, these explorations occasionally incorporate non-human perspectives, such as the gaze of insects, to create a tapestry of visual and sensory experiences. In addition to her artistic practice, Claudia has been active in curatorial work through the Vitrine-Sete project, an initiative that presented a series of exhibitions in dialogue with artists, navigating between public and private spheres, and occupying a showcase in the center of São Paulo. Her performance practice is inherently collaborative, engaging participants to explore collective expressions and shared narratives.
