CALL FOR PROPOSALS. This year the ATGender conference on “Gender Studies and the Precarious Labour of making a Difference” is inviting you to explore unconventional ways of conferencing. Creators, teachers, tinkerers, caretakers, and other difference-makers who may not usually feel drawn to or included in academic spaces are invited and welcome to contribute and participate. Mark your calendars for September 27-29th at Utrecht University and submit your proposal by March 15th to be part of the event.
The ATGender conference will facilitate a Conferencing Otherwise stream that will be organized around transformative and transdisciplinary practices that enable participants to explore, experience, or experiment with alternative or unconventional ways of producing, sharing, and enacting knowledge.
Call for contributions is open to a wide range of proposals for activities aimed at “Conferencing Otherwise”, for example:
- encounters in and with the outdoors; artistic co-creation;
- bodily, spiritual, and other practices of resilience and regeneration;
- creative and skills-oriented workshops;
- explorations of affect, emotion and the senses;
- practices of care and conviviality;
- performances of various kinds;
- etc.
How to submit a proposal:

- The deadline for sending in a proposal for Conferencing Otherwise is set at March 15th, 2024

- Anyone is free to submit a proposal for a research paper or a roundtable within one of the other streams, in addition to submitting a proposal for Conferencing Otherwise. Please do note that the call for regular submissions closes earlier, on February 22nd.
- A reduced conference fee is offered to those living/working in precarity. A limited number of full fee waivers and travel grants will also be made available (for both academic and non-academic contributors). We also have some budget available for workshops/performers/etc.
