Lea Rüegg
Lea Rüegg (they/them/no pronouns) is a filmmaker, performance and sound artist, born in 1992 in Zürich, Switzerland and currently based in Zürich.
One of the core elements of their work is the motivation for storytelling. For Lea, the sharing of embodied knowledge and intimacies are understood as strategies of political resistance. Somatic forms of language such as poetry, songs, prayers or spells and their reality creating potential are one of their recent research interests. Their voice is their main tool and acts as carrier and transmitter of feeling, creating moments of intimacy with the audience. In a feminist sense they allow their voice to go through a variety of emotions and states in order to expand and complicate the idea of self. Lea‘s process is a form of performative writing. Autobiographical observations of everyday life of „being in relation“ flow into text and visual language. The boundaries between object and subject are often blurred toward an animistic understanding of the world. Collaborations are, and have always been, an important part of Lea’s artistic identity. Such collaborative methodologies are born from a belief in the power of connection and the importance of building communities.
