Rabea Ridlhammer
Rabea Ridlhammer, born in Duisburg in 1990, completed a BA of Art and Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, and an MA in Art Praxis at the Dutch Art Institute (ArtEZ). She has since been active as an artist, graphic designer and lecturer. In her often collaborative and research-based work, she engages with trivialized practices in a variety of media forms, including gossip, comedy, cheerleading, amateurism, and play. Various independent or collaborative processes result in garments, pseudo-utilitarian objects, films, video essays, publications, performative moments, lectures or events. She co-founded the offspace bunker0621 in Amsterdam, which hosted performances, exhibitions, workshops and concerts. Most recently she taught at the Merz Akademie in Stuttgart, showed a solo exhibition titled Sun, Pearls, Nicotine - A Sentimental Celebration at Offspace Peach in Rotterdam, and is currently working as a teaching assistant in the Master Fine Arts at the ZHdK in Zurich. The bar, as a social space and functional location outside of the art context, is a recurring element in her work and forms an interface with Felicitas Arnold's practice, with whom she has been collaborating on the project Mon Ch3rix - A Tasting of Sweet Pleasures.
