Maja Renn

MAJA RENN is a visual and performance artist. Her ephemeral, constantly evolving video and performance works are minimalist, modular compositions intertwining movement, drawing, poetry and abstract objects. Playfully they underline, shift and erase boundaries, switch perspectives and set up new entanglements. In her work she is interested in post-antropocentric ethics, embodied dreaming, tentacular thinking, interspecies response-ability and symbiotic modes of coexistence.

Born in 1990 in Wrocław (PL), Maja Renn completed in 2013 the Informal Master Program at the Center of Contemporary Art in Tbilisi (GE) and obtained in 2016 her MA in Art Praxis at the Dutch Art Institute (NL). In 2014 she established an independent artist residence De Liceiras 18 in Porto (PT). In 2016 she settled in Zurich (CH) where she worked, among others, as a research assistant at the Institute for Art Education at the Zurich Academy of the Arts (2016 - 2019) and as assistant director at the Schauspielhaus (2019 - 2021) and participated in Professional Training in Contemporary Dance and Ballet at the Tanzhaus (2016 - today).

Her work has so far been exhibited, among others, at the Galeria Ul in Gdańsk (PL), Šopa Gallery in Košice (SK), Casa do Povo in São Paulo (BR), Showroom in Arnhem (NL) and Villa Arson in Nice (FR). In February 2022 she presented her participative embodied dreaming research as part of the exhibition Such Stuff as Worlds are Made On in Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta (MT).
