TOK curators Anna Bitkina (DAI, 2018) and Maria Veits take the High North and the Arctic, an economically and ecologically vulnerable, but crucial for the planetary balance region, as the point of departure for the Symposium "Interdependency as a Condition", which will focus on the idea of interdependency. Among the speakers is Aslak Aamot Kjærulff ( DAI COOP tutor 2017-2020).
In the transversal organization of the planet, existing as an entirely immunized and autonomous person, discrete idea of community or country are no longer possible. Separation, even though it’s propagated by right-wing regimes and is enforced by the pandemic, contributes to approaching climate and political catastrophe. In this situation interdependency becomes a condition for further (co)existence in “new” and rapidly changing global settings. An important aspect of the symposium will be a reflection on the topic of “slow violence” (Rob Nixon) in relation to the terrestrial territory, vulnerable groups (indigenous peoples), grass roots and activists organizations, associations and institutions in the context of ecological policy, global economy and climate change.
The symposium curated by TOK will serve as a knowledge-production component of the IV Arctic Art Forum ECOSYSTEMS OF THE INVISIBLE by addressing regional issues in relation to the global context through the lens of contemporary curating, artistic production and research, and the potentiality of forms they may take. Organized in online format, the Symposium will have several investigative strands each of which might provide some ideas for new political and ecological imaginary.

The symposium speakers are curators, artists, philosophers and researchers, who in their practices study and investigate the interdependency between government policy, economic processes, technological development, cultural production, and environmental change, as well as address the problem of unequal access to participation in decisions that determine our common future.
