DAI-bulletin 2003-2004 number two October 2003
This is the second issue of the monthly DAI-bulletin in the new academic year, informing you about our program, about important dates and events.
(Students: please, PRINT THIS TEXT and keep it with you as an extension to your diary. You don't have to read it at once, read it when applicable.
Alterations in the program will be e-mailed to you .So please read your e-mails every day and take good notice of the differences in the programmes of DAI private and DAI public.)

The bus will be waiting for us in front of DAI's own entrance.
Bring some nice things to eat & to read, a small pillow, something warm to wear during the night.
In the bus there will be a screening of the two most famous Venice- movies ever made .
Death in Venice by Visconti about the artists continous search for beauty and
Don't Look Now by Nicolas Roeg an occult thriller about a horror laden visit to Venice.
Feel free to bring your own entertaining video's as well ,after the 'official' program we will vote for preferences.
DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR PASSPORT. BE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT IN VENICE YOU HAVE TO BUY a 72-hour boatticket that you need in order to bridge the distance between Venice and the place where our hotel is located. This costs ¤ 22,50 and will help you out for three days in line. For the other two days we will make arrangments with our busdriver. You will be informed about the schedule for this in the bus.

While still in the bus a text by one of Holland's most challenging artcritics Anna Tilroe will be distributed in both an English as well as a Dutch version.This text , entitled 'The art, the curator and the big clean up' poses questions about the role of the curator and the possibilities for commitment in art. Anna Tilroe critically reviewed the actual Biennale in Venice in this regard.
ASSIGMENT: please read the text thoroughly and keep it in your mind while visiting the Biennale.
Back in Enschede we will put up a discussion with Anna Tilroe (see week 44).

David made an alfabet of all things Venetian for the Dutch Art Institute that will serve as a guidebook

Kodwo Eshun is an independent cultural critic and curator. He graduated with a BA (Hons) in English Literature and Literary Theory from University College, Oxford. He is the author of the acclaimed theoretical text More Brilliant than the Sun: Adventures in Sonic Fiction (Quartet, 1998). His research interests focus on the interfaces between 20th Century music,
media theory, diasporic art practice and science fiction.
From 1996-2000, he was an Associate Member of the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit at Warwick University. In 1999, he co-curated Dub Housing, the exhibition, symposium and concert for Steirische Herbst in Graz, Austria. In 1999 and 2000, he attended Ars Electronica as Judge on the Digital Music Jury. He is currently developing Untimely Meditations, the Retrospective Exhibition on the work of the Black Audio Film Collective supported by FACT and InIVA.
He has lectured extensively on the evolution of artistic practice in the age of networks. Recent symposia include Technophilia at the Art Institute of Chicago, The Question of Repetition at the Royal College of Art, MakeWORLD at the Kunsthalle, Munich, Sonic Process at the Pompidou Centre, Paris, Towards Afrofuturism at the University of Michigan, Longplayer at the Royal Institute and Wetware at the National History Museum.
Recent essays include Ghost Dances for the Sonic Process (Pompidou Centre) Catalogue, A Dialogue with William Gibson for Sound Unbound edited by Paul D.Miller (Duke University Press, forthcoming 2003), Makrolab’s Twin Imperatives (Arts Catalyst 2003) and An Unidentified Audio Event (Artangel,2003).
