DAI alumni may be interested to know that The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is inviting applications to its doctoral program for research in artistic practice. The PhD in Practice program provides participants with the opportunity to pursue their individual arts-based research projects in a collective learning environment with a decidedly transdisciplinary and international bent. The program is coordinated by Renate Lorenz (Professor for Art and Research) and Anette Baldauf (Professor for Methodology and Epistemology). The invited lecturers and guests include Saidiya Hartman, Okwui Okpokwasili, Tina Campt, Eve Tuck, Otobong Nkanga, Fred Moten, Stefano Harney, Sharon Hayes, Nikita Dhawan, Keguro Macharia, Park McArthur and Kapwani Kiwanga. Deadline for Applications: February 28th, 2025
Saturday the 8 February 2025 ~ "Dear everybody, we are happy to invite you to the launch of NIEUWE NIEUWSMARKT 2: BODY POLITICS ~ DOCUMENTS FOR COMMUNITY ACTION FROM THE NIEUWMARKT. AMSTERDAM. Which bodies live, are represented, or accepted in our city? Who regulates them, and why do some have more rights than others? How do we reclaim our bodies and desires? Nieuwe Nieuwsmarkt 2: Body Politics explores how Amsterdammers have fought for justice and autonomy, in the past and the present, aiming to contribute to a body language for collective emancipation, making Amsterdam a welcoming and safe city for us all." Editors: Joy Mariama Smith (DAI, 2017) with Werker Collective.
Cultural discourse and close listening are more important than ever as existing rifts in the media and social policy landscape are widening. On Saturday 15th February at ADKDW, closing the first program cycle of Mutual Empathies, dear DAI alum Vanja Smiljanić (DAI 2012) and artist Saroot Supasuthivech will screen moving-image works, share their participatory research still in progress, and converse with the audience about their projects. Mutual Empathies is an international residency program, that brings together artistic positions that would not otherwise meet, responding to the countless, difficult ecopolitical questions looming for global society.
