What are the ways in which memory gets inscribed by material interactions? How does memory inhabit the archive and how does the archive become digital?
As a satellite event part of the DAI’s COOP Summit 2019 (28th & 29th June), Celluloid Traces is a collaboration between students of the Coop study group Curating Position: Logics of Montage. In between the Cinematic Apparatus and the Exhibition and the cultural operators of the Cineteca Sarda, a public audio-visual, cultural, and educational infrastructure, located in Cagliari, that includes a permanent project of restoration and film archive.
From the position of the restorers, we will dive into what an archive holds and reveals, dwelling into forms of knowledges that are embodied in the processes of restoration and archiving.
The conversation will be followed by a screening of the short film Autonomia Trentanni (1978) by Guido Costa, and a selection of material from the Cineteca’s archive of Sardinian Families’ home movies.
This event is curated by students Vinita Gatne and Sara Cattin together with the cultural operators of the Cineteca Sarda, Società Umanitaria (Cagliari).
Tutors Team: Marwa Arsanios, Leon Filter, Leire Vergara. Partner: Bulegoa z/b. Students: Ciaran Wood, Clara Amaral, Clara Saito, Dina Mohamed, Vita Buyvid, Livio Casanova, Maxime Gourdon, Raphael Daibert, Sara Cattin, Vinita Gatne.
