Matters of Mounting ~ Kostas Tzimoulis (DAI, 2011) presents a series of sculptures and installations alongside photographs, prints, and drawings that function as possible (or improbable) bases for unrealised or imaginary sculptures – for sculptures that were started but, for one reason or another, left incomplete. With this exhibition, Tzimoulis proposes ‘a system of foundations and infrastructures towards a visionary form of sculpture that addresses themes of incompletion, negation, suspension, cancellation, but also the desire and potential for continuation.
Congratulations to Assem Hendawi (DAI 2020), who has been awarded one of twelve Moving Narratives Cycle 2 Fellowships, a collaboration between the Prince Claus Fund and the British Council. Fellows receive €10,000 to invest in the further growth of their practice, engaging their communities and harnessing the power of culture to challenge and transform. Assem works across moving image, digital media, and speculative methodologies, navigating the tension between prediction and fiction, questioning how technological speculation constructs realities that are lived, imposed, or contested. Focusing on time-based media, simulations, and computational aesthetics, he examines how images mediate history and construct speculative futures.
Hanna Rullmann (DAI's long standing communication designer together with Lauren Alexander) takes part in A PARLIAMENT OF OWLS, A CONSORTIUM OF CRABS, A CULTURE OF BACTERIA, A LABOR OF MOLES, A BUSINESS OF FERRETS, A SIEGE OF HERONS, A CONSPIRACY OF LEMURS, A WISDOM OF WOMBATS, A PANDEMONIUM OF PARROTS. Through the work of thirteen artists, collectives and advocacy groups, this exhibition looks into the possibilities of broadening the scope of inter-species relations and multispecies worlding, to underscore notions of becoming-with and response-ability. As such, it wonders what tactics we need—as philosopher of science Isabelle Stengers calls it—to form an ‘ecology of practices’, in which multi-sensory embodied knowledge and care becomes part of our relationship to the multifarious and multispecies living environment again. Opening Saturday 8th March at RADIUS Center for Contemporary Art and Ecology, and continuing until 18th May 2025.
