5 February 2025 ~ Iarlaith Ní Fheorais (DAI 2023) presents Abolitionist Practices: Disability and Carcerality, as part of Studium Generale Rietveld Academie 2024-25. How might disability make one more vulnerable to incarceration? How does capital profit from state violence as a debilitating force? How can disability justice critically inform abolitionist politics? This talk will highlight the practices of artists working through questions arising from the carceral through the lens of disability justice.
How do extractive systems shape us? And in what ways are we complicit? Dear DAI alumni Aldo Ramos (DAI 2018) and Teresa Borasino (DAI 2005) held a week-long gathering with Quelccaya, Post-Extractive Futures, and Pluriversity Weavers, immersed in a deep process of collective un/learning, sharing emergent, relational, intuitive, ancestral, and embodied practices and stories. On Thursday, 30 January they opened their process to the public sharing a body-territory cartography practice, relational readings, and deep conversations about the ways artists, researchers, and activists, (and as those who do not adhere to any of these containers) respond, show up, and move through the violent times we inhabit—with responsibility and discernment.
How the internet has reshaped the ways artists establish their reputations? As part of the solo exhibition Making Artworld/s at Tøn Gallery, Dublin, Tommie Soro (DAI 2014) is hosting leading academics and writers at Temple Bar Galleries and Studios to discuss how the internet is transforming the reputational economy of the artworld. Guests include Gregory Sholette, Andrea Phillips, William Deresiewicz and Mick Wilson. Artworld Reputation in the Digital Age will take place on Saturday 1st February, and Making Artworld/s continues until 10th February.
