2009 / HERE AS THE CENTRE OF THE WORLD
Here as the Centre of the World was a transnational artistic research project that took place in six cities worldwide in close collaboration with numerous local practioners and organisations. It was initiated by Gabriëlle Schleijpen as the main component of the DAI's curriculum 2006-2008 and co-curated between Lucy Cotter, Gabriëlle Schleijpen and Alite Thijsen.
The book takes the project as a departure point for further reflection by artists, writers, theorists and cultural producers.The book features a rich array of visual material arising from a series of collaborations between artists from Beirut, Damascus, Diyarbakir, Enschede, Khartoum and Taipei. With texts by Lilet Breddels, Lucy Cotter, Tony Chakar, Pascale Feghali, Rana Hamadeh, Ozkan Gölpinar, John Heymans, Erwin Jans, Khaled Khalifa, Bechara Malkoun, Rania Mamoun, Susannah Mira, Kawa Nemir, Alite Thijsen, Jerlian Tsao, Emily Williams, and Rajagopalan Radhakrishnan.
Here as the Centre of the World was published in 2009 by Archis, designed by Marco Balesteros / Werkplaats Typografie and kindly supported by the Mondriaan Foundation and the Municipality of Enschede.
