Hajra Waheed ~ STILL AGAINST THE SKY~ curated by Natasha Ginwala. From 11.10. till 22.11.15 at KW PROJECTS
The works in STILL AGAINST THE SKY are earth-bound, while intimately considering cosmic proportions. Using a range of artistic techniques with found and newly produced materials, the Montréal-based artist Hajra Waheed contests official languages of surveillance, secret architecture and the possession of individual lives by big data.
Waheed’s works present us a timely snapshot into the crises of governance. In her artistic practice, she weaves together a range of durational projects that relate to both personal and public histories. Eventually these are re-arranged to signify an altered temporal space and a narrative continuity determined by the artist as storyteller.
The exhibition opening takes place on Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 5 to 7 pm. Natasha Ginwala, curator of the show, will give an introduction to the exhibition on Monday, October 12, 2015, at 6.15 pm, followed by a conversation with Hajra Waheed and a visual presentation accompanying the exhibition at 7 pm.
