Oct 1 at the Stedelijk Museum: THE CREATIVE IMPERATIVE II: COMMODIFICATION & ENTKUNSTUNG with lectures by Martha Buskirk and Kerstin Stakemeier
The Creative Imperative: Creative Minds versus Creative Industries is part of a series of three lectures organized by the Stedelijk and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The series aims to scrutinize what creativity and artistic production in the 20th and 21st centuries actually entail. For this second edition we welcome Martha Buskirk (professor of art history and criticism at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts) and Kerstin Stakemeier (assistant professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich). While Buskirk has an outstanding reputation for her analysis of the changing status and nature of art in contemporary society, Stakemeier’s critical investigations on the boundary of political science and art history open up intriguing perspectives on the interrelations between art and mass media.
