Dear participants, visiting artists, members of staff and friends,

This is the fifth issue of the monthly DAI-bulletin, informing you about our program, about important dates and events. Please, PRINT THIS TEXT and keep it with you as an extension to your diary. Meanwhile participants are strongly advised to not give up keeping a keen eye on the billboard in the cantina. Alterations in the program will be posted there as usual.

DIARY MAY 2003

DREAMS AND CONFLICTS
- Entitled' Dreams and Conflicts' an other Venice Biennale (huge and very informative international show on contemporary art) will be opened in June, lasting till November 2003. DAI has arranged for a touringcar and a not too expensive hotel on the Lido (beach area!). DAI-participants, visiting artists and guests can travel with us to Venice on the 12th of October. We will be back in the Netherlands on the 18th of October. More details and the costs involved will be forwarded to everybody after China. We thought it to be wise to inform you about this in an early stage, in order to prevent you from making unnecessary and expensive trips to Venice this summer.From now on it is allready very well possible to put your name on the list Hilly is keeping ! http://www.labiennale.org/

WEDNESDAY 14
-The participants in Jellichje Reijnders' project will work on 'Reconstruction' all day.
-12.00 PM Meeting in her office between Gabriëlle and the students that are going to participate in DAI's Final Show in July.

THURSDAY 15

Festive presentation of Reconstruction (last part of project with Jellichje Reijnders)
It goes without words that everybody's presence here is by all means requested!

MONDAY 19
WORLD WIDE VIDEO FESTIVAL
- 9.58 Train leaves from Enschede (change in Amersfoort to Amsterdam).
-12 PM Meeting with Gabriëlle at the meeting point at Amsterdam
Central Station & walk to the Passengersterminal where we will take a lot of time to watch videos in the World Wide Media Lounge and to wander through several videoinstallations.

World Wide Solo by Marina Abramovic ( with new and old works) Suggestion for an other galleryvisit in Amsterdam:Screening of Shirin Neshat latest work in Lumen Travo. in the same building, at gallery Metis a show by Erik Mattijssen who was guestlecturer at DAI in February.

WWVF-practical
The entrancefees will be taken care of by DAI, provided we all walk in together according to the above mentioned timetable. You have to take care though of your own food. If you want to stay in Amsterdam overnight and you don't have a place to stay please contact Hilly as soon as possible.

THURSDAY 22
11.30 Lecture.
Hassan Khan has studied English and comparative literature at the American University of Cairo. He works in the audiovisual media producing video pieces and installations as well as performances.He has also composed , performed , and recorded soundtracks for theatre and contemporary dance, and has worked on sound and music independently. Khan's performances are spontaneous interventions in public space in which architecture and sociography of the city play an important role. Currently he is involved in two Dutch projects: Contemporary Arab Representations Cairo ( from May 18 - July 27 ) in Witte de With in Rotterdam and he will be doing a performance for the WWVF in de Melkweg on Friday 23 at 22.30 PM. DAI has invited him to do a lecture and studiovisits on the 22th and 23th of May. He promised to come but did not confirm for the full 100% yet.We'll keep you informed.
