From the State of L3 to Piertopolis
Migratory Aesthetics in Contemporary Art
Antonio Jose Guzman is founder of The State of L3, a Pan African contemporary Arts & Film Collective Exchange Established in 2006 and based in Amsterdam, Dakar and Recife. Three cities that were part of the former Dutch transatlantic triangle. Other members of the collective are Abdulaye Armin Kane (Dakar) and Felipe Peres Calheiros (Recife). Every artist is working on developing his own ethno-graphical vision of the project, inspired by the personal investigation and creative language of six youngsters with African background, and in collaboration with their own platforms and organizations. The collective expresses their work through art and multimedia exchanges, inspired by political issues and modern tendencies concerning the African Diaspora.The projects, videos, and internet archive are part of the process of understanding the connection between migration, visual culture, and African heritage.
The emphasys of the lecture will be on the platform of connections of The State of L3 as an thematic for Migratory Aesthetics in Contemporary Art.
After which Guzman will explain how this project developed to the project Piertopolis.
