SPEAKING WITHOUT THUMBS ~ we proudly present video excerpts, combined with written reports on 16 graduation lectures, edition 2016.

02.12.16 | tag: Arnhem

Two long days in July 2016 were dedicated to 16 lecture-performances by our graduating students. The format was embraced here as a longstanding unique discipline, a hybrid of research, lecture, visual art and performative narrative techniques.

For the duration of twenty uninterrupted minutes each student was called to 'speak' to an audience consisting of their peers, two cameras (live-stream & documentary) and the esteemed guest respondents

Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung &

Ekaterina Degot

for this occasion teaming up with DAI-theory tutors

Bassam El Baroni

Rachel O'Reilly &

Marina Vishmidt .

Beginning their presentation with a carefully crafted key question, the graduates all presented a 20 minute lecture. Other than the limits of the given time and space frame there were no restrictions to the content and the format of the performance. Following each presentation the two invited respondents and the tutors (alternating) performed an improvised, spoken reflection while simultaneuously engaging with "the question".
