Fareed Armaly
Fareed Armaly is an artist and curator. His work since the late 1980s introduces a research-driven methodology, which draws its guidelines out from selected roles and fields of enquiry, and sets them into new correspondences "coercing constellations" (Helmut Draxler). Armaly considers the open definition of artistic practice, itself, as the medium with which to render a contemporary syntax, able to embody the complex dynamics implicit to a politics of identity, representation and culture.
Fareed Armaly has exhibited internationally in distinguished platforms such as Documenta 11, as well in such institutions as the M.C.C., Saint-Etienne; Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels; Witte de With, Rotterdam; Kunstverein Munich; Art Pace, Texas; Foundation Tapies, Barcelona, Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Geneva. Parallel to this, he has held a range of roles and positions within the art-institutional system include co-curating museum exhibitions (Louisiana Museum, Denmark) and "haus.0", his four years (1999-2002) program as Artistic Director for Künstlerhaus Stuttgart. Since 2008 he is instructor at the Ecole du Magasin Curatorial Program, Grenoble, and 2011-2013 Visiting Fellow at Center for Research Architecture, Goldsmiths College.
