Thesis: Bodies in Relation: Poetry as Communion

September 2023

Abstract

This thesis explores the potential of poetry as a language that connects us to our bodies and in communion with one another, as opposed to a language that excludes through distinction. It does so via a close examination of the on-going project The Cherryston Archive, asking what a poetic approach to art making might look like. The understanding of poetry in the context of this thesis is informed by the work of Audre Lorde and in particular her essay “Poetry is Not a Luxury.”
