September 5 & 8, 2021~ Giulia Crispiani (DAI, 2016): "Tell me where it hurts, I’ll see you there, in order to travel via words across bodies and constructs, to fill the breathless void with a summer wind that makes time pass faster. We hang our laments on walls as if it they were trophies, we gather bodies to give us courage, always busily looking for excuses to send each other love letters. Only together can we exorcise the spaces that surrounds us, bemoaning the time spent letting it all pass by, even though crying is a way to wisdom." Scongiuro is a performance, a ritual, a relational space in which Giulia Crispiani – artist, writer and editor of NERO Editions, winner of the 2020 Young Collectors Award for Quadriennale d’Arte – and Patrizia Rotonda – singer, composer, educator and expert on folk music – meet to mix expression and genealogies. Patrizia Rotonda’s traditional singing and vocal experimentation is the thread stretched over Giulia Crispiani’s practice of writing and speaking.

An enchantment, an incantation, a spell that debuts at Short Theatre with two different but interconnected site specific performances: first at WEGIL with Scongiuro – parte I and then in the setting of the Galleria at the Pelanda with Scongiuro – parte II.

The power of words penetrates our present time, dragging us to a primordial, dense and dark place, between the end of the world and the beginning of time.

For Scongiuro – parte II, the sweet yet alien sound of Ondes Martenot, performed live by Julie Normal, is woven in with vocalisations, evocations and poetry, triggering a dramatic movement that plunges the listener into an emotional abyss.
