ABSTRACT
In this thesis I am doing research on the relevance of myth-creation in art as a means to transcend a trauma. I am writing about the necessity of myth creation in the work of Joseph Beuys and Adolf Woelfli. They were both traumatized during their past, and they mythologized this trauma in their artistic work. Why were they doing this, and what aspect of the myth did they make use of in order to overcome their trauma?
