2012 - Liverpool: Biennial Weekend & Mobile Art School gathering: Use Value and Future of the Art School

tag: Liverpool

When: 13 October - 14 October 2012

How can Art Schools begin to work with students, artists and communities to re-think and produce new ways of making, working and living that avoid the 'utilitarian' imperatives of globalising neo-liberalism?

Over a two day series of keynotes and workshops from invited speakers (including Prof. Juan Cruz of Liverpool School of Art and Design and Melissa Gronlund, Editor and Managing Editor, Afterall, and group presentations/workshops (including The Autonomy Project theautonomyproject.org, Bloomberg New Contemporaries, the Dutch Art Institute,  Liverpool School of Art and Design and Shanghai University and Islington Mill), The Mobile Art School will stage a series of talks and discussions which will address these issues and begin to plan for change.

The Mobile Art School is part of Liverpool School of Art and Design's Fine Art Public Platform 'The Future of the Art School in Society'. This Public Platform seeks to bring Staff and Students on the Fine Art Programmes together with leading artists, critics, curators, thinkers and theorists in an attempt to re-define how Fine Art Programmes and Art Schools might work in the future. The results of this 5 year long Public Platform will be used as the basis for changes to the existing Fine Art Programmes at Liverpool School of Art and Design.

11AM - 5PM

LJMU Copperas Hill Building
Address:
Copperas Hill
Liverpool
L3

DAI-participants: 29 students & Renée Ridgway (Roaming Academy), Grant Watson (Curating Academy). We deeply regret the fact that two of our most committed students, who happen to be born in Iran and China, have not been granted a visa, which they applied for via WorldBridge, a commercial organisation operating in partnership with the United Kingdom Border Agency. World BRIDGE? World Canyon!

Prior to the Mobile Art weekend, 8 students participating in Co-op Academy: Useful Art will travel ahead to Liverpool and engage in The Autonomy School Nr 3 and in editing and producing a Manuel for Useful Art ( AS3 at the LJMU Art and Design Academy at Great Oxford Street).
