Dabartis contributors Monika Janulevičūtė and Noah Brehmer: How to Make Concepts Drunk?

We have a way of turning to concepts as to arrest life’s becomings. The written word and especially the written word entombed in the book’s protective casing and spine, is a technology of dehistoricization. Absorbed by the book’s lust for mumification, a form will quickly perish. Yet, before the concept and its book, the problematic seems to begin with the very notion of writing on. Indeed, to write on is already to assume the optics of an epistemological outside of one’s subject—“never will we write on May” Blanchot declares in October 1968, “never will we enclose it in a book, which, even when open, tends toward closure, a refined form of oppression.”

Introducing and responding to the recent Dabartis pamphlet Burn Your Books, we join APRiCot Garden’s “If Not Here, Then Where?” to open a conversation about how to make concepts drunk. For to drink with concepts, as we see it, is to bring them down to the labyrinthine realm of life’s inconspicuous forms: the here and now of disjunction, civil war, and cosmic rupture.

The talk will be followed by an agitational printing workshop, using a hectograph technique, which was a popular duplication method for underground leaflets in the early socialist era. This workshop will take place outside of the auditorium: on BAK's mezzanine.
