Be a little slow, a little late. (Re)fusing. (Im)printing. Conspiring. ~ Friday, July 17 from 21:30 till 23:30 ~ COOP SUMMIT 2026

“One way or another, we always get by.”

No triumph in the voice. Just the next thing, and the next.

We are the 2025–2026 COOP study group Native, Primitive, Insurgent — Arrows of God, with SAVVY Contemporary.

Over the past year, in St. Erme, Nida, Matera, and Oosterhout, we have been studying the violence that precedes the soldier — the imprint of a cosmology that severs people from land, from each other, from the sacred.

We studied those who refused it: the Quilombos, the Palenques, the Zapatistas, the Medu Art Ensemble. We listened to Malcolm X, Assata Shakur, Maya Angelou. We read Marimba Ani, Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui, Souleymane Bachir Diagne, Clovis Moura, Ianna Hawkins Owen, Diana Taylor, the Book of Job. We sat with La Última Cena, Flame, La Nación Clandestina, Faya Dayi, ÔRÍ.

We read slowly, to each other. We fell asleep mid-sentence. We puzzled together. We got lost in the bush. We kept going, because that is what keeping going looks like. We wove together on coarse white cloth. We drew with charcoal, and also with hands stained by it.

God is a search. To search is to chew and swallow a kinship deadened by forced removal, concealment and forbidding.

We come from Cuba, Cameroon, Romania, Greece, Lithuania, Bolivia, Brazil, Italy, China, Denmark, and Indonesia. We all brought salt and hot things.

Soup. Salt. Flame. Fabric still warm from the press. Inky paper. Sound you walk into. Singing after. Laughs and laughters. Hot things.

We don’t disappear like the past. We go to the future thanks to them.
