“Several mobile phones share the same physical space while receiving a single Instagram Live transmission. Because each device reproduces the stream with slight differences in latency, the space fills with delayed voices, echoes, repetitions, and overlapping temporalities.

What appears online as a coherent live event is experienced in the room as a fragmented and asynchronous present. The audience encounters two simultaneous conditions: the event taking place and the event returning through the platform moments later. Voices detach from bodies, sounds arrive twice, and the streamed image no longer coincides with the present it claims to transmit.

By slightly displacing the intended use of the platform, the performance makes perceptible the temporal gaps normally hidden beneath seamless communication. Latency stops functioning as technical error and becomes a collective acoustic condition through which another experience of presence emerges.”

Javier Rodriguez PerezCuriel's Out of sync will be presented to a live audience at Centrale Fies (Dro, Italy) on June 21, 2026 as one of 41 acts curated by Elisa Giuliano for the AEROPONIC ACTS 2026: DAWN SEEDS, convened by Gabriëlle Schleijpen for the Dutch Art Institute.
