Dory Samuel ~ Semi-closed Muscle Chains

“An open muscle chain refers to movement occurring at a specific point in a situation, where movement is unrestricted and only one segment moves at a time. A closed one, on the other hand, would be different. Let’s say this other hand is taking part in crawling. Once the ground touching hand supports the rest of the body-bound-to-gravity, the movement occurring at this specific point in crawling, can be referred to as a closed muscle chain. There seems to be no nice existing impression to express the hyperposition of these concepts. One can use prefixes, such as quasi, trans & semi, but the suffix seems to stay embarrassed in English. As one reads this sentence, while assuming boots on the ground in the indescribable tensegrity’ist reality; audience is invited in proximity of a bungee chord, to feel the negation of an oxymoroningly perfect vacuum instead; or sometimes—a bungee chord is just a bungee chor:D.”

Dory Samuel's Semi-closed Muscle Chains will be presented to a live audience at Centrale Fies (Dro, Italy) on June 19, 2026 as one of 41 acts curated by Elisa Giuliano for the AEROPONIC ACTS 2026: DAWN SEEDS, convened by Gabriëlle Schleijpen for the Dutch Art Institute.
