You are the echo, I am the choir

Magdalena‘s question: “Which mouth ate my land?”

Magdalena‘s intro:

“Look, I am still using words
I had ‘nothing to say’—which was as thick as this land
Everything that comes out of my mouth
Has been put there by my sand
The waste product of language.

Does it hurt you to listen?
My voice stops at your Wall
You are the echo, I am the choir.
Facades built first in the throat
the instinct to swallow words whole.

Greedy mouths salivate at this soil—

—gritty, textured, life is bitter
Some languages come pre-chewed
Between one word and another
the gut bloates with fake smiles
I mistake surveillance for recognition

The Sand Eating Woman born on the blue screen of televised scandal, her weirdness the spectacle, wow so peripheral—the camera loves her the way empires love buffer zones

Interested in what lands in her mouth instead of what departs from it

she creates by emptying—she stores this land in the archive of her body—her archive closed to the vertical narratives—unless they cut her gut open—

Is this how it happens?

And you will never act
You are the echo, I am the choir.”
