Mauro Acito

Mauro Acito works in cultural project development in Matera, Southern Italy.

After earning a degree in Economics and Management of Art and Cultural Activities at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, he worked for MIMA in Brussels before returning to Matera in 2017. He served as assistant to the director during several phases of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019, with a particular focus on exhibition design and the coordination of place-based cultural initiatives.

He is among the founders of TAM, a grassroots contemporary art museum based in Matera, which opened in December 2022 after a series of bureaucratic obstacles and institutional complexities — experiences he later recounted through the project Volevo solo aprire un museo (I Just Wanted to Open a Museum).
