reschooling-with is a living platform for un/learning and weaving solidarity through art practice, embodied research, radical pedagogies, and action, featuring alumni Teresa Borasino (DAI 2003 - 2005). reschooling-with invites you into their upcoming winter course, Radical Rest, Dreaming Ancestral Futures, and share reflections from their Fermentation & Anti-Fascist Living course — a practice that continues to bubble and transform.

Here, in the Northern Hemisphere, we are descending into the darkest days of the year. We gather blankets, candles, and warm tea. We cuddle up and wait for the foxes and snowy owls — messengers in many winter tales — to whisper different creation stories into our ears. Winter draws us inward, toward the stories that keep us together.

Sherri Mitchell invites you to return to these first stories — the origin stories, cosmologies, first principles, and living knowledges that have long sustained life and community. Embedded as we are in the harmful story of colonialism and capitalism — for that too is a story — we turn toward ancestral narratives that root us in belonging: to land, to community, to the more-than-human world.

SALT Winter Course

— radical rest, dreaming ancestral futures —

This Winter cycle of SALT (Solidarity, Action, Un/learning & Transformation) turns to soil as our teacher. We’ll brew tea for ourselves and compost tea for soil and plants, offering nourishment back to the more-than-human world. We’ll engage in storytelling, dreamwork, and speculative fiction writing to imagine and weave ancestral futures together.

Winter is the season of rest, not as withdrawal or indulgence, but as a collective refusal of speed, productivity and scarcity. In this fertile dark, we slow down, listen carefully, and root deep down through practices that restore us. So that when spring arrives, we can rise—more resourced, more alive, and more ready for collective action.

I hope you’re doing well and easing gently into the winter solstice.

I want to share an invitation to the next edition of SALT, an online study kitchen that Shailoh Phillips and I are hosting as part of reschooling-with.

Radical Rest, Dreaming Ancestral Futures

Winter is the season of rest.
Above ground, the fields appear still —
but beneath the surface, transformation stirs.
Roots stretch down,
mycelium weaves unseen connections,
seeds dream futures in the dark.
In this winter iteration of SALT,
we turn to soil as our teacher.
Through tea ceremonies and compost brewing,
we learn to steep, nourish soil,
and care for the more-than-human world.
Through storytelling, dreamwork, and speculative fiction writing,
we weave narratives for ancestral futures.
