We are thrilled to share that our fabulous fighter Tuba Kılıç (DAI, 2023-2025) has been co-curating the public program of OP=OP at moezeum, Rotterdam together with Hilda Moucharrafieh. As part of the closing event, they will have the immense honour of welcoming Munir Fasheh, who will be visiting the Netherlands for the very first time. Mujaawarah with Munir Fasheh will be learning with and from one another. Welcoming Munir Fasheh to Rotterdam is especially meaningful for Tuba Kılıç: they first encountered Munir Fasheh’s work during their studies at DAI in the How To Do Things With Theory class with tutor Hypatia Vourloumis. "His thinking on learning together has profoundly shaped my trajectory and has guided my master’s thesis". You are warmly invited to join and meet dear mu’allim Munir Fasheh, and not miss this rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage with him in person.
Public programme: 12 - 15th Dec 2025
RSVP is required to attend any of these sessions through the Stager link.
A small contribution will be asked to cover the communal meals following or preceding each session.
Tuba Kılıç is extremely honoured and very excited to welcome Munir Fasheh on his first visit to The Netherlands, as the closing public program of OP=OP exhibition. Munir’s lifelong work continues to inspire multitudes of people around the world, as one of the best known Palestinian theorists and practitioners of learning. His idea of مجاورة mujaawarah, translated into English as ‘neighbouring’ centers learning with and from each other, by living and sharing the material conditions. As such, he challenges institutionalised forms of education and knowledge production, and questions the words we use daily as occupied constructs that need to be released back into their value and the meaning they generate. Holder of PhD in Mathematics from Harvard University, Munir defiantly grounds his learnings from his lived surroundings, inspired from the First Intifada in Palestine, his illiterate mother, and Palestinian chicken. Through stories woven from his personal life, we are invited to question the meaning of words such as education, research, mother tongue, and freedom of expression.
Over a series of 4 days, you are invited to participate in small-group mujaawarah sessions with Munir Fasheh to unpack these terms and to learn through remembrance and reclaiming our innate ability of learning. These series are made possible through a collaboration between moezeum and Remove the Dot duo, as a part of their artistic residency at BAK Basecamp.
The sessions on Friday and Saturday at moezeum in Rotterdam are limited to 10 people. The session on Sunday at BAK Basecamp in Utrecht is limited to 20 people. And there is a whole day mujaawarah divided into two sessions on Monday for Arabic speakers only. In addition to that, Munir will give a public talk followed by a conversation on Saturday 13 December from 16:00 to 18:00 at moezeum.
