Nissa Nishikawa

Nissa Nishikawa is an interdisciplinary artist whose expanded practice encompasses sculpture, installation, moving image, performance, writing, and photography. Born on the unceded lands of Medicine Hat, Alberta, and raised in Yamanashi, Japan, her work engages ancestral forms of dance and craft to illuminate animistic and alchemical philosophies through embodied and material inquiry. Often working in the open air or in studios attuned to elemental processes such as fire, Nishikawa explores the porous thresholds between the arcane and the sensual, the living earth and its many conscious inhabitants.
