In Possible Void, the discovery of a new parasitic flower begins with a scan: silent pulses transmitted via electrical resistivity tomography (EWT) and ground-penetrating radar. Possible Void emerges where the land is read and the imagination is engaged. This jacquard tapestry combines speculative scenes of subterranean discoveries with visualizations of the underground realms of Luzon , Philippines, exposing a fragile ecology forged from the remnants of our petrochemical present. Within the work, a fictional parasitic flower evolves in response to the infiltration of microplastics deep within the Earth’s layers. This imagined species is inspired by the corpse flower, Rafflesia Arnoldii —a strange, pungent blossom reliant on a single vine that has become a symbol of radical adaptation. The flower is an acid green, its color taken from Mountain Dew bottles, which are commonly upcycled in the Philippines. They are also part of a broader, toxic material, a legacy that seeps into geological strata, into myths, into possible futures. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Our whimsical current student Erik Peters (DAI, 2026) will present their artwork Possible Void in an exhibition at Nieuwe Vide Artspace, Haarlem, titled: Vide Cultura: Through Rot and Renewal. Till 29 November 2025, so mark your calendars!

**Electrical Resistivity Tomography (EWT) is a non-invasive geophysical technique that images subsurface structures by measuring the electrical resistivity of the ground.

***petrochemical = Petrochemical refers to substances and processes related to the processing of crude oil (petroleum) into chemical products.

With the future in mind, we will recycle, compost, transform, and grow.

Nieuwe Vide's artistic direction is focused on unraveling, revealing, and overturning systematic forms of inequality. During their autumn exhibition they will also turn their attention to themselves and practice a form of artistic (self-)criticism, to celebrate creative experimentation, community, and the continuity of our existence under uncertain circumstances.

Nieuwe Vide Artspace and Studios is officially celebrating its 30th anniversary! Nieuwe Vide's autumn exhibition—which also features during Kunstlijn (Haarlem's oldest studio route)—is an annual opportunity to connect new connections and artistic interests within our Nieuwe Vide community by opening the doors of the incubator. Every weekend in November, there will be something happening at Nieuwe Vide.

Every Saturday in November, there will be an afternoon/evening program in our exhibition space to celebrate who we are and who we will become. Performances by various artists will be central to this program. In addition to these performances, you can visit our exhibition on the weekends, and there will be plenty to do at Nieuwe Vide.
