CHOIR - La cuda, qualchi vota, si fa testa

Led by Magdalena Beliavska, Agnese Krivade, Agnese Fieno Spolverini, Erik Peters, Leo Hugendubel

When: 17:30 - 19:00

Location TBA

The choir is back in Matera!

As we are going to South Italy, we are going to sing a modern Sicilian folk song, inspired to Sicilian protest happened in Catania after the killing of a protestor against the government by the police: La cuda, qualchi vota, si fa testa.

The song is trying to call for the revolt of the people against the rich and the powerful: “sometimes the tail becomes the head”.

Come warm up with us and let’s sing together (no experience needed, every voice is very welcome)!

CHOIR – Elnias Devyniaragis

Led by Magdalena Beliavska, Agnese Krivade, Agnese Fieno Spolverini, Erik Peters, Leo Hugendubel

When: 20:30 - 22:00

Starting Location: Exhibition Space

As we enter the dark and snowy Nida, we will be reminded that it is the cold winter that used to be celebrated as the start of new life in the ancient Lithuanian traditions. It all ends and starts with the Winter Solstice – the turning point of the year, when the longest night gives way to the gradual return of light. In ancient belief, this date was not simply an astronomical event but a threshold of transformation. This symbolic meaning has later permeated into modern Christian traditions.

Singing has always been at the heart of these observances. In Lithuanian tradition, folk songs and ancient sutartinės – multipart polyphonic vocal forms – were living expressions of cosmology, community, and continuity. These songs carry symbols of cosmic cycles and open the portal for strange creatures and unlikely natural events, representing the rhythms of seasonal life. Awaiting the sun, harmonizing our voices with each other, we will summon blooming linden trees and the life-giving Deer Mother – Elnias Devyniaragis – carrying celestial bodies within her nine antlers.
