Öykü Özgencil ~ Keywords: otherness, transindividuality, interspecies, circular, ritual, ancestral, speculative, vessel, subconscious landscapes, ecologies of relation

In her works, Öykü seeks to create a meeting space, both for the self and for the other. Through the journey, she charts new maps that weave together private and public dreams or mythologies, often accompanied by the therapeutic potential of collective rituals. She tends to explore the intersection of oral culture and interspecific ecologies through socially-engaged practices. Her research gestures toward the circular, non-binary, and permeable dimensions inherent in these fields, while also surfacing historically repressed perspectives they hold. Through this play, she dissolves established forms, molds, entities, narratives, and states, the status quo, into the same water and re-enchants their existence as precious particles of a deep well of emotions, memories, instincts, and vibrations. Her works can take forms of text,  performance and installation as well as ancestral and speculative experiments on the exploration of ‘otherness’.

In 2015, she founded the initiative INCOMPLIT and collaborated with collectives and NGOs focusing on children and women. INCOMPLIT is a community-engaged creative studio that taps into the imagination and creativity of diverse children and women communities through thematic workshops, and develops collaborative artifacts.

Individually, she has carried out socially engaged practices within the exhibitions of artists such as Eva Kot’átková and Maria Wirkala. These works, which could also be described as ‘workshops,’ are regarded by her as a journey into the collective unconscious together with different artists.

Öykü’s works have been exhibited at Hošek Contemporary Berlin, as well as within the framework of the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial, GlogauAIR, and Milan Design Week among others.
