Dearest Alumni Anastasia Nefedova (DAI 2022) invites us to a performance of Salon d’Amour by former DAI colleague Margret Wibmer, on July 4th and 5th at The Merchant House, Amsterdam. The performance is part of the current exhibition Collecting I: Bridges, co-curated by Nefedova, exploring love as a force for transformation in times of social and ecological crisis. Salon d’Amour invites the audience to read and listen to love letters from renowned international writers and artists, including James Baldwin, Frida Kahlo, John Cage, Ursula K. Le Guin, Mohamedou Ould Slahi, Marianna Maruyama (DAI 2012), Ingeborg Bachmann, Astrid Roemer.
Salon d’Amour, recently presented in Kanazawa, Japan, is now staged in a new edition developed especially for Amsterdam. It mediates participants into a space of intimacy, anonymity, and exchange through choreography and masks made by Wibmer. This time the performance features new masks that address today's global issues of identity, migration, and belonging— as an example, the huik, which originated in North Africa, particularly Algeria, and later became a veiled cloak traditionally worn by women in The Netherlands.
Dates and Location:
Friday, 4 July & Saturday, 5 July
19:00–21:00 (Doors open at 18:30)
The Merchant House, Herengracht 254 Amsterdam, Netherlands
The performance will be in English and Dutch.
