Alkmini (b.1997, Athens, Greece) lives and works in Berlin as a community gardener/ workshop facilitator, farmer, seed librarian and artist. In their practice they play with ideas of the ‘folkloric’, sensuality and of ‘home’ as mythology. They use their playful sense of storytelling in collaborations, performances and sculptural works and aim to re- think and re- imagine our relationships to ritual, desire and sound by awakening mythical memories of the past and of now. Through the process of visual, sonic and oral myth-making they address the difficulties of translation and attempt to illustrate multiple images; sounds that live and die as society’s ears get used to new ones; feelings of belonging; of language; of dry/wet lands; and the body as a tool to tease pleasure and pain. Their current practice is an attempt to archive a feeling, a smell, a dialect, a confusion, a sadness of what they don’t/ they can’t hold on to anymore. It is a way to preserve an unwritten note, a gesture, a smell, a joy, a grief that leads to deeper reflections on the forms that identity and culture can take when it refuses to fit western categorization.
