APRiCot Garden 2025: Research as Regenerative Practice. The Department of Xenogenesis ~ dialogue between The Otolith Group (Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun) and Emily Pethick.
This dialogue between The Otolith Group (Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun) and Emily Pethick will traverse the conceptual terrain of their Department of Xenogenesis (DXG)—a nomadic academy that excavates the revolutionary potentialities nested within Octavia Butler's science fiction trilogy. For over two decades, Sagar and Eshun have cultivated pluralistic cosmogonies through installation, publication, performance, and moving image, their practice emerging through constellations of collaboration across the communities and diasporas of the global majority. The conversation will consider how the Group's post-cinematic essayist works engage the chronopolitics of futurity while simultaneously challenging neo/colonial disruptions that shape planetary consciousness.
