Fisherwomxn
Fisherwomxn is a group of cultural workers working across the disciplines of
writing, publishing and performing arts to foster critical dialogue around feminist and
anti-colonial thought. Through our work we explore our personal relationships with
these ideas and how they manifest in our lives in Cyprus and the diaspora, aiming
to deconstruct the post-colonial ideologies that push us away from home. How can
we bear the responsibility of regenerating our lands within our postcolonial
realities? How can we find alternative spaces of refuge and of being together
beyond the futility of nation states and other imperialistic structures? At the base of
our practice are two pillars: the Fisherwomxn journal and the Streams. The
publishing of the journal grapples with the questions that concern us through
various forms of creative writing. Streams are a series of gatherings, aiming to
extend these conversations through artistic interventions such as performances,
workshops, open discussions and other forms. Fisherwomxn is organised by
Miriam Gatt, Ioulita Toumazi and Seta Astreou-Karides.
