DAI in Nicosia, Cyprus. Confluence#4 ~ March 19 till 30, 2025
(Scroll for Day to Day Programme, Protocols, Practicalities and names Planetary Campus Crew present on the ground.)
Dear friends and comrades, dear all,
With this special edition of our BULLETIN, the Dutch Art Institue wants to update you on our journey and welcome those of you who happen to be around, to join us for 3 public moments, all part of our Confluence#4, which is about to take place in Nicosia on the island of Cyprus.
The Dutch Art Institute (DAI) is an itinerant Master program at the intersection of theory with art, activism, performance and curation. Without a permanent home, students and tutors congregate seven times per year at different places throughout Europe (and beyond) to engage in collective study. Finding like-minded partners, we connect with local art initiatives, weaving an international network, an archipelago of distinct localities and initiatives, each with their own rhythms and objectives. We exchange in a spirit of generosity, holding space while sharing time and knowledges, generating energy, building the community to come.
After extensive moorings in Cagliari (2019), Sidi Bou Said (2020), Bergamo (2022), Salina Island (2023) and Essaouira (2024), Nicosia is the latest location where our "soft spaceship" is invited to land temporarily as a way of building lasting collaborations and friendships. This has been made possible thanks to the unwavering efforts of our "Archipelago Weaver 2025". Marina Christodoulidou , the latest DAI person who poetically and practically manages to relate and connect our Roaming Academy to a place she herself so deeply cares for. Our huge gratitude goes out to Marina, and we hope her visionary work will be inspirational to many others (alumni, tutors, friends) who want to step in her big shoes and become the Archipelago Weavers of DAI-futures near and far.
Our heartfelt appreciation extends to Louli Michaelidou and Elena Stylianou, our respective hosts at our makeshift homebases State Gallery of Contemporary Art-SPEL and the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre-NiMAC.
Here, we (students, tutors, guests, crew, friends) are to contribute to the defining four curriculum components of our program and the conversations, discussions and movements extending within, around and beyond them.
Sending you warmth and much needed solidarity, amidst the blatant injustices and violences of our time, Gabriëlle Schleijpen, artistic director DAI
