Hong ~ Keywords: image studies, performance studies, island studies, East Asian philosophies, daoist studies, body and lens, call and respond
Hong is an art worker, image researcher and islander. Born in Island Taiwan and currently resides in Berlin and Taipei.
His research focuses on body-based images, which differentiate from lens-based images that are usually conducted through technological apparatus with screens. Body-based images explore how visuality is evoked through non-visual sensations, recalled and generated with memories, life experiences, mass media and identities—the apparatus of generating reading ability.
The recent practice Tetralogy of Absence (2022-) explores the underlying rules that govern our sights and our way of reading the worlds and realities. Instead of representing, the performance installation responds to the call from the non-linear historical framework to present, to bring alive and to summon imagery events, seeking spaces of shared emotional resonance and solace through imagery connections.
He studied the Master of Fine Art Photography at Bard College and the International Center of Photography in New York, USA (2020), and Master of Fine Art at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark (2022).
