The issue departs from the term 'slow violence' in order to center the relationship with violence in our discussions on the climate crisis. It aims to expand our idea of what violence is and perhaps bring the rather abstract and universal concept of ‘climate change’ back in relation to the necropolitics that underly it. Moving away from a universal narrative and addressing the different roles people, companies, and nation states play, also opens up the possibility to address the call for climate justice, an issue addressed in a special section of this issue edited by Radha D’Souza and Jonas Staal.

The CICC is a project initiated by Radha D’Souza and Jonas Staal, produced in collaboration with Framer Framed. The exhibition launches in September 2021 at Framer Framed and features a large-scale tribunal installation. From the 28th to 31st of October, the CICC will stage four cases against multinational corporations and the Dutch state.

Errant includes a special section on the project, including a conceptual introduction to the CICC through a conversation between D’Souza and Staal. The other contributions are from the judges who will be overseeing the CICC proceedings; they reflect on climate crimes, justice and injustice.
