“Fighting For Dead and Non-Existent Spirits” is a play of cultural and sexual domination narrated through a contemporary female body; it is a schizophrenic search for political positioning. Artist and researcher Sonia Kazovsky (DAI, 2017) is very happy to invite you to its Amsterdam premiere as well as to the launch of her publication POWER PLAY, both at Perdu on the 12th and the 25th of May, 2019.

In her first lyrical theatre work, Sonia Kazovsky acts as both performer and appropriator, examining power relations as cultural heritage. It is a power play in which a female body attempts to reclaim its preconstructed and inherited image. The play inhabits various times and locations through the performer’s contemporary body alongside the spirits of Lee Lozano, Ana Mendieta, Carl Andre, and more.
“Fighting For Dead and Non-existent Spirits” is intended for one female performer and a choir, or as an open source alteration for seven or more participants. The production is a collaborative effort by Sonia Kazovsky, Eden Kramer, Amir Avraham, Margo van de Linde, Silvia Ulloa Marquez , Lola Kantor-Kazovsky, Olga Katova, Tirza Kater, Leeron Tur-Kaspa, Martha Jager, Mezrab- The House of Stories , Perdu Literary foundation and many other labourers who supported this effort on the sidelines.
The accompanying publication “Power Play” will be launched at the performance.

Sonia Kazovsky (RU/IL/NL) is an artist and researcher based in the Netherlands. Her practice is an inquiry into the mediation of radical positions and institutionally acknowledged narratives. Kazovsky writes theatre and poetry, and occasionally gets on stage in the form of lecture performances.
