Marianna Maruyama ~ Keywords: love, labor, translation

Marianna Maruyama (DAI, 2014) uses the body and voice as primary agents in her performance-based practice. One of her primary interests is translation as an artistic method and her performances, music and writing often depart from a position of not knowing. Following an extensive working period in Japan, Maruyama moved to Amsterdam in 2012, and has been based in The Hague since 2016. She has tutored at the Dutch Art Institute (DAI Art Praxis MA), guest lectured at The Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam, and is an artist-researcher at the invitation of the Sedje Hémon Foundation. She works in both contemporary art and music contexts. Exhibitions and performances include The Jewish Historical Museum Amsterdam (NL), Beautiful Distress House (NL), The Deep Splash (LT), SMBA (NL), Manifesta 11 (CH), and documenta 14 Parliament of Bodies (DE). Her commissioned score "The Assistants" (2018) was premiered by the contemporary music Ensemble Modelo62 in Spring 2018 (Korzo): with additional performances in the Centraal Museum Utrecht (2018) and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (2019).
