We are pleased to know that works/projects by two of our alumns have been selected for the exhibition FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT at the Stedelijk Museum as part of the MUNICIPAL ART ACQUISITIONS 2018 ~ works by Jort van der Laan (DAI, 2011) and Joy Mariama Smith (DAI, 2017) and 18 other artists can be seen / experienced during and after the opening on Saturday 24 November.
Freedom of Movement: Municipal Art Acquisitions 2018 brings together artists exploring notions of political agency within the field of time-based media. As neo-nationalist and populist political movements gain traction in the West, the phrase “freedom of movement” has become central in national conversations on civic engagement and responsibility. How much freedom do we have, and how much do we allow others?
The Municipal Art Acquisitions is a series of biannual exhibitions organized with the financial support of the Municipality of Amsterdam. During the exhibition, the Stedelijk will announce which pieces it has chosen to acquire for its internationally renowned collection.
