2018 - 2020 Wilf Speller (United Kingdom)

In 2067, Wilf established The Institute for Archipelago Thinking, a think tank that aims to study ‘pre-flood’ models of island management. Speculative fiction is here employed as a tool to reflect on the present, with a view on a nearing future that will force us to think of legal issues of sovereignty when the global warming predictions come true and the available land becomes drastically diminished under water. Although, in his statement, Wilf claims to be ‘concerned with the politics and ethics of image culture’, this example proves that, at DAI, he will be able to expand on innovative conceptions of ethics and politics, beyond the realm of the image and into the world of social experience.
