2018–2020 Giorgos Gripeos (Greece)
Giorgos Gripeos' professional trajectory includes, among other events, his participation in the Thessaloniki Biennale, and a solo show at the Museum Perron Oost in Amsterdam, called Hour Hands. The latter, which claims to be the ‘smallest museum in the world’ is illustrative of Giorgos’ recent developments. At first sight, a perhaps unexciting collection of little clay objects but its quality lies within the process of creation, which involved the participation of a hundred neighbours, who gathered around a communal meal to make their own contributions, culminating in a social sculpture reminiscent of contemporary practices by Pawel Althamer. Like the Polish artist, Giorgos includes his own daughters in the making of some of his pieces, so that the plastic result is not as important as the communicative possibilities of art making.
