2017-2019 Clara Amaral (Portugal)
Clara Amaral previously studied at the SNDO, School for New Dance Development, a Choreography BA based in Amsterdam. After her graduation, Clara became the recipient of a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundantion Scholarship to participate in DanceWeb, Vienna. All of which has contributed to shape a well-developed interdisciplinary performative practice and a clear, yet open, set of concerns. Thematically, her practice engages with imagination, fantasy, and fiction and a desire to practice dance in relation to these words. Her recent work, Do you remember that time we were together and danced this or that dance? is an immaterial publication learned by heart by Loïc Perela and Clara Amaral and transmitted to the audience in one-on-one sessions. It has been presented in Amsterdam (Julidans, Veem House for Performance, Frascati Theatre) and Vila do Conde (Portugal). She has also written for the publications Theaterkrant, Contemporary Cruising, and Journal. At the DAI, Clara is intending to research new creative methodologies that enable her to explore the intersection between language, choreography, performance, and writing, crystallised mainly, but not only, in the form of lecture performances, and beyond – a beyond that looks at the exploration of possibilities of permeability between theory and creative writing.
