2017-2019 Samantha McCulloch (South-Africa)

06.10.17

Samantha McCulloch is an artist, curator, writer, and editor. She holds a Master of Art Curatorship from The University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Fine Art from The University of Cape Town. She has an extensive experience both as curator and as visual artist, recognised with numerous awards and residencies (MATCH Funding by Creative Partnerships Australia; NARS International Artist Residency, New York; Fjúk Art Centre, Iceland, among others). Samantha has chaired and participated in various seminars, as well as published papers, most recently on the academic journal Third Text. Her research interrogates the nexus between art practice, writing, and curating; in particular the relation between structure and frame, in which language punctures or confronts such frame, accomplishing its critical potential. Concerted Efforts, at Westspace, Melbourne, is one of her most stimulating curatorial projects, accompanied by a publication on the concept of collaboration. Samantha’s participation in the Dutch Art Institute is supported by the ArtEZ Scholarship.
