ABSTRACT

In this thesis I explore the notion of morality in the movie A Clockwork Orange, by Stanley Kubrick. I start by traveling in space with Georges Perec and his book Species of Spaces and other Pieces, keeping in mind that morality is a game of borders between two spaces, two notions: “good” and “bad”. I continue by exploring the meaning of morality in philosophy and ultimately in A Clockwork Orange, a movie that caused a big moral discussion when it was released in the 1970s. How can a work of art be “moral” and “immoral” at the same time? And in the end what is moral?
